What are Moon Rocks?

What Are Moon Rocks and How Are They Made?

A moon rock is a nug of dried cannabis flower that has been dunked in concentrate or hash oil and rolled in kief. Kief is the fine green powder that collects at the bottom of your grinder. It is made up of the trichome crystals that fall off the dried flower when ground up. They contain a high level of THC and are sometimes sprinkled on a joint, blunt, or bowl on special occasions.

How to Make Your Own Moon Rocks

If you’re in a spacefaring mood, it’s simple to make moon rocks at home. You’ll need at least one bud, some liquid concentrate or hash oil, some kief, tongs, and an eye dropper or concentrate that comes in a dispenser, like Ellevia’s Balanced RSO Live Resin. 

1. Use the eyedropper or dispenser to cover your bud with concentrate. Be careful not to overdo it, or it won’t burn well.
2. Use the tongs to roll around the sticky bud in the kief. Let it dry.

How To Consume Moon Rocks

We’re of the opinion that the best way to smoke moon rocks is in a bong. To do so, place a small piece of moon rock in a nest of cannabis flower and ignite as usual. Some folks like to embed the nugget of moon rock, others like to rest it on top, it’s up to personal preference.

You can also use them to roll one heck of a joint or blunt, similar to how you might include pressed hash. Yet another way is to simply smoke them on their own, usually in a pipe. Due to Moon Rocks’ resinous nature, it’s  best to use very small pieces and have a pipe that’s easy to clean.

Keep in mind you’ll have to break them up with your fingers — these things are so sticky you shouldn’t put them in your grinder. A small pair of scissors (that you don’t mind gumming up a little) can also be a helpful tool. Be sure to wipe them down with some isopropyl alcohol afterwards to get any lintering residue.

Moon rocks, as the name suggests, will likely send you to space. The high hits much faster than regular flower, and lingers for a long time. 

For most, moon rocks are not a party item. They’re a couch-lock, laugh-at-everything, spend-an-hour-figuring-out-how-to-cook-a-frozen-pizza experience. But your mileage may vary with your tolerance.
